Brixton

Brixton Thursday 29th July 2021

The sun was shining and the feel of summer was in the air as I set off to explore Brixton this morning. I have visited Brixton frequently over the years-drawn to the energy of the bustling market community a mix of so many different cultures. More recently my visits have been centered around the amazing street art - which is constantly popping up across this vibrant energetic town ~ dotted around the market place, village and corners of the high street.

When the sun shines-Brixton shines right back at you.

The Market Place

Colorful fabrics, ripe fruit & veg, fresh meat & fish, food markets & restaurants and so many happy people, are at the heart of this beautiful place. The smell of freshly prepared food, mingled with the smells of the market place and spices, the presence of so many different cultures and languages spoken have created a unique ~ special space. The familiar hum of the trains on the rail tracks above ,vibrate across the market, as young & old move in the midday sun.

This is the Brixton I’m getting to know and love💛

Community ~ Culture ~ Vibrant Energy ~ Proud ~ Diverse

I spent a few hours exploring surrounded by other visitors and a community out and about doing their thing, shopping, chatting, laughing and enjoying the sunshine. Some of them happy to stop and chat and pose for my camera. Street photography is not one of my strengths but I had some fun taking photos in the market place-I think the sunshine helped a lot.

I came across some street art that I would like to to share with you, created by Mr Bunny Bread @icreatenotdestroy who shared some of the story behind each of the images he has created as a tribute to his friend. If you have not seen these or visited Brixton before-I would recommend taking some time to explore, these images do not compare to seeing them up close in real time. It is only then that you will see and appreciate the true scale, energy and beauty of this tribute to

“ TY ~ A man of the people “

Rest in peace

Over the next few weeks I will be sharing images from my visits across London and beyond-as I explore London’s streets, the coast line and whatever takes my interest along the way :)xx
